2011 has been another successful year for the Sub Sea Engineering (SSE) team worldwide with a turnover approaching £11 million, a growth of 10%. Highlights have included the Scarabeo 9 project in Singapore, working with Frigstad on the installation and commissioning of the BOP and then providing manpower for the tow to Cuba and operations in that region. Globally C-MAR has seen growth in existing markets in Brasil, India, the United States and Africa and new instructions for work in Israel with Ensco. Our core manpower services team continues to generate an extremely strong reputation in the industry underlined by contracts with all the major drilling contractors. Commissioning, installation and servicing of the BOP in the yards and onsite has grown this year and it represents a key opportunity for establishing C-MAR as the market leader of consistent, quality, and value BOP sub sea engineering.
There have been a number of changes to the management team in 2011 with Ron Dickie leaving for Pacific Drilling and Jason Haines taking up a position with Atwoods. We wish them well and hope they will remember us when they are looking for people! We are very grateful to Norman Ritchie, the Aberdeen Sales Manager for holding the fort and covering the Eastern and Western hemisphere with visits to Houston and Singapore. These changes have provided us with an opportunity to re-shape the SSE management team and build a more efficient and sustainable organisation that will improve our sales coverage and focus on developing a larger group of SSEs. We need to generate more project work and this requires concentration of effort on sales delivery. We will be starting a campaign in 2012 to interface more closely with the decision makers in the drilling contractors and ensure they fully understand our full range of capabilities.
The regulatory outcomes of the Gulf of Mexico disaster are still being developed and there will be more as the trail of litigation influences the industry. We need to be on the front foot in demonstrating to our clients that we can service their operation safely, efficiently and that this delivery can be audited. Clearly the training and competence of the team are the bedrock of this service and whilst some contractors have their own framework, we need to develop our own system that can be audited by clients and accredited by industry organisations. It will generate more transparency in the career progression of our engineers, managing expectation and ensuring that each individual can progress at their own rate and not that dictated by an arbitrary measure of experience.
To oversee this development in 2012 we are recruiting a Global SSE manager, based in Houston. He will be interfacing closely with the drilling contractors and ensuring that the regional sales and logistics teams can continue to manage our diverse and experienced team.
A very large thank you to all our engineers, support teams and managers for a successful 2011 and best wishes for a prosperous 2012.
