European DP Conference

The third annual European DP Conference was run at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel & Conference Centre in Kensington, London on the 8th & 9th June 2011. The Dynamic Positioning Centre was again the Platinum sponsors of the event further enhancing our partnership with Riviera Maritime Media who organise the event and publish the ‘Offshore Support Journal’ and ‘Marine Electronics & Communications’ among other publications and also organise the ‘OSJ’ Conference at the same location.

Peter Aylott who is the ‘Chief Operating Officer’ of the Training Division of the C-MAR Group was on the conference advisory panel which consisted of a variety of senior representatives for across the industry sector. Their advice shaped the conference program, making sure that the focus is concentrated on the industry’s particular concerns and interests including on the program:

  • Outlook for the Industry
  • Challenges and Opportunities for Dynamic Positioning
  • Legislation, Regulations and Guidance
  • The Competence Cycle
  • Economic Benefits of Dynamic Positioning
  • Complexities of New Technologies
  • New Applications of Dynamic Positioning

All of these topics contained several presentations by esteemed industry professionals examining the issues from a range of perspectives and it seemed the general feedback was the conference was a great success and an improvement on last years event, Mike Hawdon the C-MAR Group ‘Marketing Manager’ said; ‘The more operational basis of the topics was a vast improvement on last years presentations which I felt in many cases were just a sales pitch for the company presenting the topic’

As another additional aspect of the conference this year there was a small exhibition and as part of the DP Centre’s sponsorship package we were allocated space for a stand which was manned on the first day by Mike Hawdon and on the second day by Nathaly Garnier who is the ‘Office manager’ and ‘DP Course Administrator’ for the DP Centre London. This proved an excellent additional networking opportunity and several valuable contacts were acquired in the two days of the conference so in general the conference was a great success.
